Tennessee’s Chris Cline Scores Big in Maxxis Grand Nationals
Despite the challenges of the toughest year in history for many individuals, the Maxxis 4 Cycle Sprint Series fought through the worst of it, not only seeing its points season through, but also ending the year in great celebration, as the series wrapped up the third edition of its Grand National event at 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida recently.
With drivers converging on 103rd Street from a multitude of states, it was Tennessee driver Chris Cline who stood tall during the weekend, not only taking the $1,000 CIK LO206 Masters Money Race on Saturday, but also laying claim to the win in the Kart City Performance Masters Class on Sunday, also snaring the coveted Grand National Eagle.
Other invaders who did well included St Louis driver Carter Pryor, laying claim to the Pinehill Discount Trophies LO206 Junior class. Additionally, fellow Midwest racer Mick Gabriel scored one of the most impressive wins of the weekend, making a last lap move to take the EK Chains CIK LO206 Senior Medium class. Maryland’s Brady Atwood was also successful in becoming the only repeat winner of the weekend, taking the JLS Machine LO206 Cadet Yellow class, as well as the Kalvinator Engines LO206 Cadet Green class. The only other repeat winner of the weekend was Georgia driver Stevie Roberts, taking the Ground Shaker Shootout for the Vintage Open Modifieds, topping Jason Shoffner for the Championship Belt. Earlier in the day, Roberts also laid claim to the ARC Racing Vintage Limited Modified Eagle, besting Cameron Plyler and Tyler Swann. For Roberts, the hardware was sweet, as he took an eagle and championship belt for the weekend, while thanking engine builder Rudy Wade and team owner Robbie Davis for his success in 2020.
While Roberts was celebrating winning the belt Saturday evening, Chris Cline was also enjoying the top shelf on the podium in the Kart City Performance Masters Money Race. With sponsorship from local attorney, and new Masters racer Randy Reep, as well as Elmer Edmonson, the Masters class was jammed with talent, as Cline scored the win. With Cline well out front, being hounded by North Carolina’s Tim Skinner, a late miscue by Skinner allowed Cline to edge away for the win. With Skinner sidelined, the intense battle for third became the battle for the runnerup spot, with John McFarlin edging Joey Miller in a spirited battle. For his effort, McFarlin came home with a $300 payday, while Miller earned $200 for third. 2020 Masters Champion Tim Clark came home fourth, followed by Chris Carroll.
Cline’s quest for the Grand National was no easier on Sunday as South Carolina veteran Chris Carroll hounded his every move, eventually settling for second, followed by Tim Clark, Tim Skinner, and Kevin Medearis.
For the better part of the EK Chain CIK LO206 Senior Medium event, the 1,2 punch of Collin Miller and Moe Edmonson was very effective. However, the backstretch at Jacksonville can either be your best friend or your nemesis. The latter proved to be the case, as Midwest stalwart Mick Gabriel collected two drafting partners in Tennessee’s Elijah Skaggs and North Carolina’s Lauren Brallier, as the trio made the late race move, securing the top 3 spots, with Miller and Edmonson rounding out the top 5 in one of many fantastic finishes for the weekend.
The battle in the Pinehill Discount Trophies LO206 Junior class was also earned in the final set of turns, as Missouri invader Carter Pryor battled with 2020 champion Lane Littleton, with Pryor edging the Georgia driver at the line for a great run between the pair. Mason Donahue came home third in the race, followed by Brently Miller and Luke Dacosta.
For the better part of the season, Maryland’s Brady Atwood had been one of the last few final drivers sporting the traditional big nose and bodyworks. However, on the Grands weekend, Atwood, in preparation for the CIK Bodyworks transition for 2021 in the class, pulled out the new style bodyworks, and continued his front running success, taking the Kalvinator Engines LO206 Cadet Green event. Great runs were placed by many in the field, with Cadet Rookie Lillian Scarbrough scoring a solid second place run, while Ronnie Klys, Sidney Miller, and Camden Boatfield all had great runs in the top five.
Atwood would return in the JLS Machine Cadet Yellow Class for his second eagle of the weekend. After winding up crashing hard earlier in the day, newcomer Tazzo Reep, in just his third national of the year, came home second, followed by Ronnie Klys and Jaydyn Fowler.
Keeping with the Maryland theme, Collin Miller returned for an eagle in the SSi CIK LO206 Senior Heavy class, topping Moe Edmonson, Riley Scott, Mike Greiner, and Sean Meier, thus topping a great mix of Senior Heavy talent in the country.
Not to be denied an eagle, Georgia’s Lane Littleton came back strong to top a talented field of drivers in the Mikim Motorsports Pro Gas Junior class. Littleton bested Brently Miller, Mason Donahue, Brady Atwood, and K Mike Chidester for the top honors.
The youngest winner of an eagle went to young Colton Glass, a winner in the Moe’s Racing Kid Kart class, as Glass topped James Maldonado and Jason Trucks Jr for the win.
From the youngest drivers to the Vintage class, both the Vintage Stock Medium and Heavy classes were stacked with talent, as well as amazing racing. Taking the win in the Swann Mechanical Vintage Stock Medium class was Georgia driver Tyler Swann, with Billy Johnson, Duke Zink, Thomas Neese, and Jason Shoffner completing the top five.
Johnson would return to finish 1 spot better in the CK Packaging Solutions Vintage Stock Heavy Class, besting Chuck Watkins, Brandon Neese, Duke Zink, and Francis Buck for the top honors.
With the hardware handed out, the 2020 season officially came to a conclusion. Special thanks to Dyno Cams and Lloyd Racing for sponsorship of the event, as well as Roberts Kart shop for the amazing Fast Time Awards.
The 2021 season will officially kick into gear April 9 and 10 as the series will revert to 1 Day shows in the new season.

Maxxis Grands Set for Jacksonville
With the offseason for most competitors already underway, and cabin fever already setting in, GoldspeedUSA Officials are busily preparing for the annual Grand National event in just a little over a week at 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida for the Maxxis 4 Cycle Sprint Series.
Scheduled for the weekend of November 20-22, the historic event, which gathers drivers from the south, midwest, and northeast, is taking shape rather nicely. Saturdays action will get underway with 1 round of practice, followed by qualifying, and 2 rounds of heat races, thus setting the field for the 206 and Tillotson classes. Main events for the Swann Mechanical Vintage Stock Medium, CK Packaging Solutions Vintage Stock Heavy, and ARC Racing Vintage Limited Modifieds will take place Saturday, with the balance of the classes returning Sunday for 1 round of practice and their main events, thus getting everyone on the road at an early time.

Loftin, Swann, and Roberts Take Vintage Titles at Jacksonville
The beginning of the makeup portion of the season for the Maxxis 4 Cycle Sprint Series officially kicked in September 25-27 with a much anticipated return to 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida with the running of the 4th of 5 points races for the 2020 season. And while there is still 1 official points race left to go for the bulk of the series, the Vintage portion of the Maxxis program concluded, with Josh Loftin, Tyson Swann, and Stevie Roberts snaring championship titles in their respective Vintage classes for the season.
Roberts nailed down the title in the ARC Racing Vintage Limited Modified class by taking 1 of 2 events over the weekend. Roberts topped Duke Zink and Cameron Plyler in the Saturday show, with Plyler returning on Sunday to take away his first Maxxis Gold Cup ever, scoring the win over Zink and Roberts. For his efforts, Roberts was able to secure the Limited Modified title over Plyler and Zink in the final standings.
For Tyson Swann, his success in the CK Packaging Solutions Vintage Stock Heavy class was much like Roberts in Modifieds, as the fellow Georgia driver snared one of 2 wins over the weekend. On Saturday, North Carolina veteran Doug Rink came home first, with Billy Johnson and Swann making up the top 3. Swann rebounded on Sunday for the win, besting Steve Loftin for the win, giving Swann the title over Loftin, with Ohio driver Kevin Frische rounding out the top 3 in the final standings.
By far, the closest points battle in the Vintage classes would come down to the Swann Mechanical Vintage Stock Medium class, where North Carolina’s Josh Loftin’s consistency would net him the 2020 title. After having to sit out the July Barnesville event due to illness, Georgia’s Tyler Swann had a major hole to dig out of, thus sweeping the weekends events, and also working his way back into year end points contention. Swann bested his Dad Tyson on Saturday, with Duke Zink, Loftin, and CJ Usry making up the top 5. The Swann duo again made up the top 2 on Sunday, again with Tyler on top of Tyson, followed by Zink, Usry, and Loftin.
When all the tabulating was said and done, Loftin edged Zink by a mere 6 points for the title, with Tyler Swann working back up to finish third in the final standings for the year.
While the Vintage drivers may be done points wise, many will return November 20-22 to Jacksonville, Florida for the Grand Nationals.
And what would Florida be without a little bit of rain? That was evidenced on Sunday, as race officials tried to squeeze in a shortened program. However, Mother Nature had other ideas, as 3 of the national classes were forced to fall back on qualifying times, due to severe rain and lightning that lingered the balance of the day. One of the 3 classes involved was the Kart City Performance CIK LO206 Masters class, with North Carolina veteran Tim Skinner sweeping the action. Skinners win on Saturday came over veteran Chris Carroll, with points leader Tim Clark, Barry Hastings, and newcomer John McFarlin rounding out the top 5. With Sunday having to rely on qualifying results, Skinner again was tops in the field, taking the win over Carroll, McFarlin, Clark, and Hastings.
The SSi CIK LO206 Senior Heavy class found a pair of Florida veterans taking the top honors. Saturdays victor was Michael Clark, as he topped Aren Lloyd, Mike Greiner, Moe Edmonson, and Chris Carroll. Not able to be there Saturday never created a problem for Florida’s Sean Meier, as Meier won a spirited battle with Edmonson for the win, followed by Lloyd, Greiner, and Collin Miller.
While Miller claimed fifth in Heavy on Sunday, he was one of the few drivers to get out the broom and sweep a class this weekend, taking down both wins in the EK Kart Chains CIK LO206 Senior Medium class. Miller topped Lauren Brallier Saturday, with Aiden White, making the transition up to Seniors, coming home third, followed by Cale Martin and Chris Ball. Miller returned to sneak in the Sunday win, as wet track conditions slowly entered the facility, holding off a furious charge by Brallier, with White coming home third.
The Tillotson T225 Class was also on hand with Georgia driver Aren Lloyd scoring the win over Jacob Duvall.
For Georgia’s Lane Littleton, the success keeps coming in the Pinehill Discount Trophies LO206 Junior class, as Littleton swept another weekend of activity, topping Owen Lloyd, Mason Donahue, K Mike Chidester, and Emma Kate Scarbrough on Day 1. On Sunday, Littleton returned for the win, topping Lloyd, Donahue, Chidester, and Scarbrough once again.
The train of success continued for Littleton in the Mikim Motorsports Pro Gas Junior class, as the Georgia driver swept the weekend here as well, taking wins over Owen Lloyd, Brentley Miller, Mason Donahue, and K Mike Chidester, with the top five results being the same both days.
Georgia driver Peyton Bridges was focused on a sweep weekend as well in the respective Cadet classes. That was the case in the Kalvinator Engines Cadet Green Class, where Bridges topped his year long rival in Maryland’s Brady Atwood, with Tazzo Reep, in just his second race of the year, coming home third, followed by Lillian Scarbrough, and Wesley Sweatman, in a most spirited battle amongst those three. On Sunday, it was once again Bridges and Atwood, with Jaydyn Fowler, Reep, and Scarbrough rounding out the top 5, as this also was a class that had to fall back on qualifying due to rain.
Bridges found success again on Saturday in the JLS Machine Cadet Yellow class, with Reep, Sweatman, and Fowler crossing the line behind the winner. However on Sunday, Maryland’s Brady Atwood rebounded from mechanical issues the day before, to take the win over Bridges, with Fowler, Sweatman, and Ronnie Kys rounding out the top 5.
In the Moe Racing Kid Kart class, Lexus Keith scored a pair of wins over the weekend, further strengthening her success in the class. Young Jason Trucks Jr was also on hand, providing a great battle with Keith for the weekend, taking a pair of runner-up finishes.
Prior to all the weekend racing, Moe Edmonson came home the winner in the Friday night Money Race for the EK Kart Chains CIK LO206 Senior Medium class, taking home a cool $300. Collin Miller came home second for a $150 payday, with Lauren Brallier scoring a $50 effort for a third place finish.
With Jacksonville now in the books, and three titles secured for the season, it’s time to crown the balance of the hopefuls, as the series heads to the legendary Sandy Hook Speedway in Street, Maryland October 30-November 1 for the final points race of the season. And while the Vintage drivers have the weekend off, there will still be plenty to fill the void, as many local drivers in the TaG Senior and Shifter classes will be on hand to battle for the top shelf of the podium. Action begins on Friday with a full day of practice, followed by 2 full days of racing.
Entry info for Sandy Hook is now available online by going to www.maxxiskartracing.com/sprint-series. Or you can contact Buddy Long at Buddy@goldspeedusa.com.
As we close out another weekend of racing, it is with great sadness that we also say goodbye to a very special member of our racing family. The North Florida Kart Club, as well as the Maxxis 4 Cycle Sprint Series lost our dedicated local flagman Billy Newburg. After flagging for the series on Friday afternoon, little did any of us know it would be last time we would see such a fine young gentleman, and excellent flagger, as well as ambassador to our sport. On behalf of GoldspeedUSA, our thoughts and prayers go out to the Newburg Family. You will indeed be missed my friend.

Littleton, Bridges Score Triple Wins in Maxxis 4 Cycle Return to Charlotte
The return of 4 Cycle racing to the famed Sprint Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway provided some of the best racing in the short history of the Maxxis 4 Cycle Sprint Series. A crop of over 200 entries crammed into the newly revived infield sprint course at Charlotte, with Georgia young guns Lane Littleton and Peyton Bridges leading the charge with 3 wins apiece over the weekend.
Littleton’s success began in the Pinehill Discount Trophies 206 Junior Class on Saturday as the series points leader charged to an impressive win over fellow Georgia stalwart Owen Lloyd. The Peach State was well represented in the top 5 as Aiden White, in his best performance of the season came home third, followed by Emma Kate Scarbrough and K Mike Chidester. Sundays action found a mirror image in the top 2, with Littleton again coming away with the weekend sweep, with Lloyd a tight second, as Mason Donahue, Scarbrough, and Chidester chased the top 2 across the stripe.
Littleton completed the trifecta with a Sunday win in the Mikim Motorsports Pro Gas Junior class, with Lloyd again on his heels for a second-place finish, followed by Donahue, Scarbrough, and Chidester. Not to be denied victory lane, Lloyd found his way to the top spot on the podium in Saturdays Pro Gas Junior main, with Littleton taking second, followed by Donahue, Chidester, and Scarbrough.
Much like Littleton, Peyton Bridges began his weekend assault with a victory in the JLS Machine Cadet Yellow class. As has been the case all season long, Bridges endured a race long battle with Maryland competitor Brady Atwood, with Atwood coming home second, followed by Adam Wein, Will Franklin, and Wesley Sweatman. Sundays Cadet Yellow race was a carbon copy of Saturday, with Bridges sweeping the weekend class over Atwood, Wein, Franklin, and Sweatman.
The outcome in the Kalvinator Engines Cadet Green class on Saturday was heading in the same direction, until a late race scuffle between Bridges and Atwood opened the door for Keelan Harvick to snare his first career Maxxis Series win. Making his first ever appearance of the season with Maxxis, the son of current Nascar Cup Series points leader Kevin Harvick slid by the intense battle for first, taking the Saturday win, with Wein, Atwood, Bridges, and Franklin making up the top five.
Bridges retuned to form Sunday in the Green Slide class, taking his third of the weekend, with Atwood again shadowing the winner in second. Completing the top five were Harvick, Franklin, and Lillian Scarbrough.
Several other drivers found their way to victory lane more than once, as Georgia veteran Stevie Roberts swept the action in the ARC Racing Vintage Limited Modified class. Roberts topped Duke Zink on Saturday, with Cameron Plyler, Ricky Bryant, and Austin Jones completing the top five. Roberts returned to victory lane Sunday, topping Bryant and Zink for the weekend sweep.
For nearby Charlotte, and national competitor Duke Zink, his double success came in the Swann Mechanical Vintage Stock Medium class. After having to leave the July Barnesville, Georgia event early due to concerns back home of a tornado near his home, Zink scored a popular victory in front of many well-wishers, topping Todd Horton, Thomas Neese, CJ Usry, and Josh Loftin on Saturday. On Sunday, Zink continued his winning ways, besting Tyler Swann, Usry, Loftin, and Chris Usry for the win.
The Georgia theme continued in the Tillotson T225 Class, as Aren Lloyd won the battle over Florida teammate Jacob Duvall on both days. The two drivers were the front runners for a chance to go to the T4 World Finals in Jesolo, Italy October 1-3. While the award was scheduled to go to the eventual 2020 class champion, the global pandemic forced Maxxis and Tillotson Officials to revise the qualifications for the honor, with the points leader following the Charlotte event gaining the opportunity, which went to Duvall by 5 points over Lloyd. Lloyd actually was a three-time winner as well, taking the Tillotson Money race Friday evening, thus collecting a $600 payday for his efforts, with Duvall coming home second for a $300 paycheck.
For South Carolina veteran Chris Carroll, his double wins came in a pair of classes, as Carroll took the top honors Saturday in the EK Kart Chains CIK LO206 Senior Medium class, besting Indy winner Moe Edmonson and Lauren Brallier. After just moving up into the Senior ranks for this event, northerner Brody Kellner was impressive, taking the fourth slot, with Collin Miller rounding out the top five. Carroll added some weight on Sunday enroute to his second win of the weekend in the SSi sponsored CIK LO206 Senior Heavy class, topping defending Heavy champion Caylyn Brown, with Michael Clark, Aren Lloyd, and Eric Fagan completing the top 5.
On the previous day in Senior Heavy competition, Fagan came away with his first win of the weekend, topping Aren Lloyd in a spirited battle, with Brown, Matthew Grooms, and Raphael Leon completing the top 5. And in the Sunday Senior Medium finale, not to be denied, Maryland hotshoe Collin Miller held off the efforts of fellow Maryland competitor Brody Kellner for his first win of the weekend, with Brallier, Edmonson, and Geno Pasquale making up the top 5.
While most every finish was right at the line all weekend long, one of the many impressive finishes was in the CK Packaging Solutions Vintage Stock Heavy class, where Billy Johnson barely fended off points leader Tyson Swann by the narrowest of margins. Coming home third was Doug Rink, followed by Chuck Watkins and Steve Loftin. On Sunday, Swann found his way to victory lane, with not so close a finish as the previous day, with Rink, Watkins, Loftin, and Mike Grigsby completing the top 5.
For yet another weekend, the Kart City Performance CIK LO206 Masters Class was absolutely stacked with talent. And for local product Tim Skinner, he left the track all smiles, taking the top honors over outside invader Jamie Bradford, with Tim Clark, Chris Cirillo, and Chad Chandler completing the top five. Later that evening, in yet another most entertaining race, Skinner took the $300 in the Masters Money Race, just edging Paul Rice to the stripe for the win, with Jamie Bradford, Kenny Buff and Tim Clark completing the top 5. On Sunday, Bradford continued his top 5 mastery of the weekend, topping Skinner for the win, with Cirillo, Chris Dugan, and Barry Hastings rounding out the top 5.
As an added treat for the weekend, fans had the pleasure of witnessing some 2 cycle action, as the KA100 Junior class was on hand Sunday. Taking the top honors was Jack Bierman over Collin Hayes, with Ian McFarlin, Griffin Lynn, and Collin Teague completing the top 5.
While the August race would normally mark the end of the points season for the Maxxis Series, the pandemic, which forced the postponement of events in March and April, has the the Maxxis Officials extending the season. The next event for the series will be at 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida September 25-27, which will serve as points race #4. Following that, the series will move on to Sandy Hook Speedway in Street, Maryland October 30-November 1 for the season points finale, with the Grand National set for November 20-22, back in Jacksonville, Florida. Entry info the September event will be available online shortly.
GoldspeedUSA would like to thank everyone for their patience and support of all the 2020 events. While it has been a tough season for all, the Charlotte event has helped to enhance a better than anticipated 2020 season, in light of all the world circumstances. New Season for Maxxis Sprint Series Just 3 Weeks Away
With the winter doldrums almost in the rearview mirror, Maxxis Officials have been busy preparing for the newest season of the 4 Cycle Sprint Series, set to begin March 27-29 at 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida.
Following a most successful Grand National event in Florida in late December, the series carries a ton of momentum into the new season with several new sponsors, 3 additional classes, not to mention a new venue to the series.
With many competitors testing out the Virginia International Raceway Plantation Course recently, the excitement level has increased for many competitors.” The addition of VIR helps further bridge the geographical gap between the northern and southern competitors, giving drivers tracks that range from Maryland to Florida, with several great tracks in between” stated Series Director Buddy Long. This year competitors will have 5 different venues to compete at, including Jacksonville, Barnesville, Kershaw, VIR, and Sandy Hook, making for the best schedule yet, providing variety to the schedule.
The success of the 2019 season has also produced the desire for additional classes. New to the series this season will be the transition of the Pro Gas Engine package from Cadet to the Junior level. With the bulk of Cadet racers reaching the acquired age to move up, most that ran the Pro Gas package in Cadet will have the opportunity to continue with that engine combo in the Junior ranks, as well as the 206 engine package. Cadet drivers will still have the opportunity to run twice a day with the chance to run 2 different slide packages, featuring a Green and Yellow slide class.
For the Senior drivers, a CIK LO206 Senior Medium and Heavy class will be available, as well as the 206 Masters class. The Vintage Series debuted a Vintage Stock Lite class in December, giving drivers a Lite, Medium, and Heavy class, as well as the Limited Modified group. And there will also be a Tillotson T225 class this season as well.
Long stated,” The goal is not to saturate the series, but better yet giving drivers in all classes, with the exception of Kid Kart, the choice to run more than 1 class per day, if they so desire”. Most competitors traditionally run more than one class per day.
All totaled, there will be 13 classes that will run each day for national points. Here are the 2020 national classes.
LO206 Kid Kart
LO206 Cadet Green
LO206 Cadet Yellow
Pro Gas Junior
LO206 Junior
CIK LO206 Medium
CIK LO 206 Heavy
CIK LO 206 Masters
Vintage Stock Lite
Vintage Stock Medium
Vintage Stock Heavy
Vintage Limited Modified
Tillotson T225
With the influx of new classes comes many new sponsors, including Kalvinator Engines, Pinehill Discount Trophies, JLS Machine, CK Packaging Solutions, Tillotson, and Georgia Gunite and Pool Company. Returning sponsors include Lloyd Racing, Dyno Cams, Moe Racing, Diversified Plumbing Services, Swann Mechanical, SSi, ARC Racing, Kart City Performance, EK Chain, and Roberts Kart Shop.
The timeline for the season opener at Jacksonville will begin with a full day of practice Friday March 27 from 9am-4pm. Following practice will be 2 Money races for the LO206 Junior and CIK LO206 Senior Heavy competitors, each paying $300 to win, with $150 going to second, and $50 for third, sponsored by Georgia Gunite and Pool Company. Saturday’s activities will begin at 9am with the first of two rounds of practice, followed by qualifying, heat, and mains.

Amundson Rows to Grand National Win at Jacksonville
Wet weather conditions were the theme all day Saturday in the 2nd annual Grand National event for the Maxxis 4 Cycle Sprint Series at 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida, as the 2019 curtain was drawn down on year #2 of the southern series. Highlighting the weekend was the performance of Florida competitor Dylan Amundson in the $2,000 to win CIK LO206 Senior class. The weekend was highlighted not only by an increase in entries from the previous year, but also provided a preview of what will be a most competitive LO206 Junior class, as many of the previous seasons Cadet racers made the journey up to the next level of competition.
On and off rain showers left competitors to deal with wet track conditions the entire day, with Amundson leading a star studded field of CIK racers through the rain and mist, to secure a most impressive win over Florida veteran Sean Meier, with Corey Towles, nursing a broken foot, making a staunch run from deep in the pack to come home third. For his efforts, Amundson collected $2,000 for his winning efforts, with Meier collecting a $500 payday, while Towles garnered $300 for his efforts.
As mentioned earlier, the Junior class will be loaded with competition this season. However, most of the former Cadet racers still had to find a way to tackle the 2019 Junior Champion in Collin Miller, as the Maryland competitor rolled to the Grand National win over Carter Pryor and Tanner Carter. The Junior class also will be fielding a Junior Pro Gas Engine package in the new season. And that’s where many of the past Cadet racers were successful, with 2019 Cadet Champion Owen Lloyd taking the top honors over Darryl Moglia and Brently Miller.
The loss of many Cadet racers didn’t prevent the 206 Cadet class from still providing great competition, as Maryland competitor Brady Atwood scored the rain-soaked win in the event over Georgia racer Lane Littleton, with Adam Wein coming in third in the event. Despite the loss of the Pro Gas Engine package, Cadet racers will still have the opportunity to run twice a day during the 2020 season, with drivers having a chance to run classes with a Green slide, as well as a Gold slide class.
One of the appealing draws in Jacksonville is that of the Senior Pro Gas Class. Taking the top honors was Florida driver Mike Greiner, as he bested Michael Clark, with Dylan Amundson making it a Florida sweep of the top 3. The Clark family was well represented in victory lane again in the CIK LO206 Masters class, with 2019 champion Michael Clark coming home the winner yet again. Getting used to the transition to CIK equipment was of little challenge to the Florida native, as Clark topped Jamie Bradford and Chris Dagan for the top honors.
The challenges of the wet weather weekend provided a different outcome than anticipated for the Vintage portion of the program. With a full compliment of Vintage racers on hand, the elements prevented the veterans from fulfilling their Grand National feature hopes. While historically, the Vintage racers do not run in the rain, or wet weather conditions, all Vintage classes had to fall back on either their qualifying or heat race results, the bulk of which were run in dry track conditions. The Vintage Limited Modified class was the first to fall back to heat race results, with Bob Barthelemy taking the win over Ricky Bryant. The same outcome took place in Vintage Stock Medium with Brody Ridley taking the win over Steve Loftin and Todd Horton. Doug Rink took the Vintage Stock lite heat race win over Chris Cirillo and Willis McKenzie, while Vintage Stock Lite had to stand on their qualifying results, with Tyler Swann the winner over Brody Ridley and Eugene Neese. Following the event, it was determined that Vintage will run in the rain, beginning with the March Jacksonville event.
The same issues beset the Kid Kart class as well. However, policy is that Kid Karts do not run in rain or wet weather conditions. While officials did their best to steer around Mother Nature, attempting to find a dry opportunity, the outcome had the Kid Karts also having to fall back on their qualifying results, with 2019 Champion Sydney Miller taking the win over Lillian Scarbrough and James Maldonado.
With the 2019 season in the books, officials are busy preparing for the season opener, once again in Jacksonville, Florida March 27-29. The series will then head to Barnesville, Georgia April 24-26 for stop #2. Following a break in May, the series will return to Kershaw, South Carolina June 19-21 for the third race of the 5-race season. Stop #4 will be a return to Sandy Hook Speedway in Street, Maryland July 10-12, with August 14-16 serving as a new venue on the circuit, as drivers head to the Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Virginia for the season ending championship. As mentioned already, the Grand Nationals will return to their original November date on the weekend of the 20-24, the weekend before Thanksgiving, also sporting a new format for that weekend’s activities. The series 2020 awards presentation will also take place at the track that Friday as well. For more information on the 2020 Maxxis season, go to www.maxxiskartracing.com/sprint-series.

Littleton, Bridges, Pannell, and Scarbrough Lead Locals on Maxxis Championship Weekend. Cirillo Takes Big Boy Bash!
Temperatures in the high nineties, the newest school season, and the busiest weekend of 206 competition in the country did not deter the points finale for the Maxxis 4 Cycle Sprint Series from enjoying great numbers, as the series wrapped up its second season of competition at Lamar County Speedway in Barnesville, Georgia.
With a packed pits of national competition, the local contingent was well represented in victory lane as Peyton Bridges, Lane Littleton, Jocie Pannell, and Lillian Scarbrough, all regulars in Barnesville, found the top shelf of the podium on more than one occasion. While Bridges, Littleton, and Scarbrough all ran the national series, there was no doubt they were enjoying Home Track Advantage this past weekend.
After picking up her first national win a month ago in Maryland, Lillian Scarbrough roared to life both days in the Moe Racing Kid Kart class, taking the Saturday win over defending series champion Jaydyn Wilson, with Camden Boatfield, Sawyer Chambers, points leader Sydney Miller, and Caleb Wilson rounding out the race order. Day #2 found Scarbrough right back in victory lane, with Wilson once again in the runner-up position, followed by Boatfield, Caleb Wilson, and Miller. Millers finishes allowed her to take the 2019 Kid Kart Championship, while Scarbrough came home a close second, followed by Texas driver Sawyer Chambers. Here’s a look at the Top 3 final standings in Kid Kart.
1 Sydney Miller: 411
2 Lillian Scarbrough: 403
3 Sawyer Chambers: 355
For Lane Littleton, the return to Barnesville victory lane was a welcome sight. After breaking his arm at the Barnesville event back in April, forcing the Georgia driver to sit out the weekend, Littleton roared to life with a pair of wins in the Mikim Motorsports Pro Gas Cadet class. On Day 1, Littleton fended off 2019 Pro Gas Champion Owen Lloyd, with Peyton Bridges, Brady Atwood, and Darryl Moglia rounding out the top 5. On Day #2, Littleton continued his pace up front, again topping Lloyd, with Atwood improving to 3rd, followed by Moglia and Mason Donahue. With his pair of runner-up finishes, Lloyd attained the 2019 Pro Gas Championship. Here’s a look at this years top 3.
1 Owen Lloyd: 433
2 Mason Donahue: 405
3 Brady Atwood: 403
Much like Littleton, Peyton Bridges was enjoying sleeping in his own bed each night, which showed with a pair of wins in the Brads Karts and Parts LO206 Cadet Mains. On Day #1, Bridges led the 10-kart field to the checkers, topping Littleton, with Owen Lloyd, Darryl Moglia, and Adam Wein completing the top 5. Day #2 found a mirror image of the top 3 of Bridges, Littleton, and Lloyd, with Mason Donahue and Darryl Moglia completing the top 5. Once again, consistency on this weekend, coupled with numerous wins during the season enabled Lloyd to snare his second title of the season, with Donahue and Moglia finishing second and third in a very tight battle. Here’s a look at the final top 3.
1 Owen Lloyd: 518
2 Mason Donahue: 488
3 Darryl Moglia: 485
For Jocie Pannell, a regular at Barnesville, her first experience with national competition netted the young driver her first pair of national event wins in the Coyote Motorsports/Brad Heating and Cooling LO206 Junior class. Pannell bested fellow female competitor Jenna Pearson on Day 1, while Eli Brewer chased Pannell across the stripe on the second day of competition. While not at the finale, the 2019 Junior championship was wrapped up by Maryland’s Collin Miller prior to the weekend. Miller will be honored for his Junior title in December at Jacksonville on Grand National weekend.
The tightest points battles were in all 3 Vintage classes. In its maiden season, the Vintage drivers added a great element to the pits, and on track. And this past weekend, the stress to win the Swann Mechanical Limited Modified Championship was on. Sporting a slim lead in points, Gregg Redd had the pressure squarely on his shoulders, and didn’t disappoint. Day 1 action found the classes Saturday stalwart in Jason Shoffner taking yet another impressive win on the season, with Redd coming home second, followed by Ken Eversole, Bob Barthelemy, and Cameron Plyler. Feeling the pressure from behind, Redd stepped up his game on Sunday, taking the top honors over Barthelemy, Tracy Pearson, Eversole, and Cameron Plyler. In the end just 4 points separated the top 3 in the final standings in the closest finish of the season. Here’s a look at the top 3.
1 Greg Redd: 329
2 Bob Barthelemy: 327
3 Ken Eversole: 325
The ARC Racing Vintage Stock class had a little more of a gap in the final standings, but not much. And with 24 hungry Vintage Stock racers converging on the Barnesville course, 1 slip, and title hopes would be dashed. But for Tyler Swann, the Georgia product kept his head, staying consistent with a top 5 run on Day 1, as Todd Horton, another Saturday top gun driver took the main event win over Steve Loftin and Billy Johnson Jr. Day 2 found Swann looking to preserve that first ever title, with a win over dirt veteran Kenny Buff, while Archie Kennedy rounded out the top 3. With his win, Swann takes the inaugural title. Here’s a look at the top 3.
1 Tyler Swann: 371
2 Greg Redd: 362
3 Steve Loftin: 354
This years awards ceremonies will honor a Father and Son Champion as Tyson Swann laid claim to the Dyno Cams Vintage Open Modified title. While needing some relief help on Saturday from Stevie Roberts due to extreme heat conditions, Swann and company tuned the kart just right, as Roberts roared to the Saturday Open win over Kenny Buff, Rodney Benefield, Duke Zink, and Chuck Pittman. Zink raced back for the Sunday checkered, thus coming home second in the overall standings. Here’s a look at the top 3 in the final standings.
1 Tyson Swann: 340
2 Duke Zink: 319
3 Kenny Buff: 245
Fathers and Sons were also represented this past weekend in the SSi LO206 Senior class as 2019 champion Caylyn Brown topped Dad Kenner in Sundays action, while besting Peter Rigg on Saturday. Brown will be one of the many honored in Jacksonville in December for his title.
Not to be denied a pair of wins this weekend also was Chris Carroll in the Kart City Performance CIK LO206 Senior class. Carroll bested Jacob Duvall, Tyler Swann, Aren Lloyd, and Kyle Banovitz on Day 1 while returning on Sunday for a sweep of the weekends class. Duvall again came home second followed by Austin Kinny, James Inscoe, and Lloyd. With his finishes over the weekend, Lloyd secured his first ever title in CIK competition, with Carroll coming home second in the title run.
With 2019 champion Tim Clark missing from action this past weekend, the floodgates were open this weekend in the EK Kart Chain 206 Masters class with a pair of Florida veterans in Barry Hastings and Brad Farmer not only securing a pair of wins, but also locking down top 3 spots in the final standings. Hastings took the Day 1 honors over Farmer and John Seglem, while Farmer improved one notch in the order, taking the Sunday show over Seglem, Chris Cirillo, and Hastings. Here’s a look at the final top 3 in the 2019 standings.
1 Tim Clark: 418
2 Brad Farmer: 389
3 Barry Hastings: 385
The weekend got off to a great start with the first edition of the Big Boy Bash, a special race for many of the heavyweights in the Vintage Stock Class. With drivers weight set at 220, 11 of the best in Vintage Stock racing ran a trio of race segments, full of inversions off track, and great racing on track. In the end, New York’s Chris Cirillo came away with the first edition win, receiving some amazing awards from Tyson Swann of Swann Mechanical. Cirillo was in a huge dogfight the entire distance with Billy Johnson Jr, Joey McNeal and others before taking the prestigious win. Billy Jones fought his way to second with Randy Bloodworth coming home third.
Speaking of awards, special thanks again to Stevie and Stacy Roberts of Roberts Kart Shop and Razor Chassis for the amazing Fast Time awards. Also, Happy Anniversary to Stevie and Stacy as well.

North and South Draw Battle Lines in Maxxis Sandy Hook Summer Nationals
Under the most intense heat wave of the young summer season, competitors up and down the eastern seaboard made the trek to the immaculate Sandy Hook Speedway in Street, Maryland for the 4thround of the Maxxis 4 Cycle Sprint Series, with some pretty amazing, yet, not surprising results.
With temperatures in the high nineties, heat index well over 100, and humidity as thick as a Maryland crab cake, the best of the series came through with a great mix of Northern and Southern talent, 10 wins going to the south, and 7 from the north.
A perfect scenario for the weekend came in the EK Chains CIK LO206 Senior Class, where the battle was on between the two regions. Beginning with the Friday evening Money race, paying $500 to win, courtesy of Barnes Paving, the battle was on from the outset, with a solid 10 kart quality field shadowing each other the entire distance with Georgia competitor Aren Lloyd checking in for the win, topping Florida’s Moe Edmonson and New York’s Josh Stiefel. Edmonson came home with a $300 payday while Stiefel took home $200.
Points Race #1 for the class only got better on Saturday with Lloyd and Edmonson waging a great battle down the stretch, with just enough room left open on the final lap for Doug Barnes to sneak through and steal a huge win for the Maryland crowd. Edmonson came home second, followed by Lloyd, Tyler Frantz, and Riley Friedman, with Drew Cirillo, Josh Stiefel, Indy Kassy, and Jonathan Tedder rounding out the order. On Day 2, Lloyd was able to roar back and claim his second win of the weekend in the class, with Drew Cirillo making big swings on Sunday, improving up to second, followed by Barnes, Stiefel, and Friedman.
The Kart City Performance Masters class found a familiar face in victory lane, as Florida veteran, and points leader Tim Clark made the venture up for the weekend, thus sweeping the weekends activities over Brandon Hollenbaugh and Elmer Edmonson.
One of the most pleasant surprises was seeing the bulk of the southern Cadet Class Drivers able to make the long venture, thus blending in with some top-notch Maryland talent. Starting with the Mikim Motorsports Pro Gas Cadet class, Georgia’s Owen Lloyd, who made the venture up to the facility the weekend before, made the most of the early visit, thus earning a pair of Pro Gas wins over fellow Georgian Lane Littleton, with Maryland stalwart Brady Atwood a solid third each day, followed by Florida drivers Darryl Moglia and Mason Donahue, while Emma Kate Scarbrough and Amanda Shaw rounded out the field. The end result for the top 7 in the finishing order was identical both days.
In the SSi LO206 Senior class, Elmer Edmonson, fresh from moving up to the Senior ranks one race prior, swept the weekends activities, topping current points leader and Florida veteran Caylyn Brown both days. Chris Crillo and Jonathan Tedder chased the pair across the stripe on Day 1, with Cirillo earning a third-place effort on Day #2.
The Coyote Motorsports/Brads Heating and Cooling LO206 Junior class was stacked with some great competition. Led by current series points leader Colin Miller, the Saturday show revealed one of the best comebacks of the weekend. After being shuffled back in the order early, Miller never gave up, hitting his marks, and roaring back through the field for the Day 1 win over Carson and Hudson Brown, with Aiden Coleman and Jamison Huffman rounding out the race order. Miller made sure to keep the lead early on Day 2, thus cruising to the sweep for the weekend, with Hudson Brown, Coleman, Carson Brown, Huffman, and Justin Fleischer rounding out the order.
Adding to the excitement of the national weekend was the added flavor of Local Option competition, as the Clone Modifieds from the Elkton Grand Prix, as well as the TaG Senior class, enjoyed some great competition on track. Day 1 action for the Clones found Kyle Weissner in victory lane with Chris Smith, Legacey Cavanaugh, and Ty Neal rounding out the race order. While Weissner wasn’t able to return on Sunday, fellow 4 Cycle top dog Travis Manning took Wei ssners seat, and parked the Clone right back in victory lane. Smith again was second in the event with Cavenaugh, and Jacob Lowery rounding out the finishing order.
In TaG Senior competition, Virgil Gross was the class of the field, taking the win over Sebastian Fleischer and Mark Eller.
While racing all weekend long was top shelf, the Brads Karts and Parts LO206 Cadet Class was amongst the best, with Owen Lloyd taking the win over Darryl Moglia, with Lane Littleton, Will Loller, and Mason Donahue making up the to 5. Completing the top 10 were Emma Kate Scarbrough, Brody Kelly, Keith Labhart, and Amanda Shaw, and K Mike Chidester. Littleton, strong all weekend, improved a few spots in the order on Day #2 topping Lloyd and Donahue, with Maryland speedster Brady Atwood coming home 4th, followed by Chidester, Loller, Moglia, Scarbrough, Kelly, Shaw, and Labhart.
It was even North/South in the Moe Racing Kid Kart class over the weekend with southern racer Lillian Scarbrough winning on Saturday, while Marylander Sydney Miller returned the favor on Sunday, taking the win in the 2-kart battle.
As always, the Fast Time awards were top notch, with competitors receiving their rewards for Fast Time action, courtesy of Stevie and Stacy Roberts of Roberts Kart Shop and Razor Chassis.
Thank’s so much to Robert and Brianna Miller and their entire staff for the outstanding job they did, making one and all feel so welcome. Despite the excessive temperatures, this was clearly a race people will be wishing they had attended this year.
While 2 more events remain on the Maxxis Sprint calendar, the final points race will be August 16-18 at Lamar County Speedway in Barnesville, Georgia. Entry info is already available at the Maxxis Kart Racing website, with entries already rolling. The early highlight of the weekend will be the Big Boy Bash for the Vintage Stock Racers, a 20-lap event for drivers that are 220#’s or more. Should be a great weekend of racing. Be sure and get your entry in today by going to www.maxxiskartracing.com/sprint-series.

Miller Preps for Sandy Hook with Kershaw Junior Trifecta
As the Maxxis 4 Cycle Sprint Series heads to the second half of the season, and prepares for its newest venue in July at Sandy Hook Speedway in Street Maryland, Whiteford, Maryland Junior competitor Collin Miller is prepped and ready to defend his home turf next month, after sweeping the Coyote Motorsports/ Brads Heating and Cooling Junior class activities recently during the Southern Nationals weekend at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina.
Joining Miller in the multiple win column were Georgia driver Peyton Bridges in the Brads Karts and Parts LO206 Cadet class, while Florida veteran Tim Clark maintained his #1 status in the Kart City Performance LO206 Masters class with a sweep of the weekend’s activities. Also checking in for a pair of wins was Georgia driver Greg Redd, a double winner in the Swann Mechanical Vintage Limited Modified class, while Moe Edmonson graduated to the Senior ranks with a win in both the SSi LO206 Senior and EK Chain CIK LO206 Senior ranks on the final day of competition.
As they say in racing, it only takes 2 karts to make a show. And the Kershaw weekend began with a bang, as Miller and Moe Edmonson put on an absolute driving clinic, with the pair of drivers trading the lead multiple times during each lap in the 206 Junior Money event Friday evening. Setting a great example of tremendous sportsmanship and respect among the 2 drivers, Miller eventually nipped Edmonson at the line, with newcomer Lauren Brallier, one of the top female competitors in the south, coming home third in the event. Despite a change in the eventual race finish, following post-race tech, which placed Brallier second and Edmonson third, the stage was clearly set for the weekend, as Miller and Edmonson displayed some of the greatest, most respectful side by side racing in the history of the sport.
By meeting the minimum age requirements for Senior competition, Edmonson moved up the balance of the weekend to compete in the LO206 Senior and CIK Senior classes, with great first race results. Despite Edmonson’s absence, Brallier picked up the intensity on Saturday, shadowing Miller the entire 15 lap distance on Saturday, with Miller taking the win. Miller polished off the weekend with the Sunday Junior win.
While Edmonsons first day in the Senior class didn’t net the results he had been accustomed to, with a 4thplace finish in the SSi LO206 Senior class on Saturday, the Florida driver quickly adapted to his new surroundings in the Maxxis program, taking the Day 2 win in the class over current points leader Caylyn Brown, with Michael Clark coming home third. Not to be denied his run for the title, Brown took the Day 1 victory over Clark, Paul Rice, and Edmonson.
In the EK Chain CIK LO206 Senior action, Georgia driver Austin Williamson looked like he was running on rails, taking the Day 1 win over an impressive field of drivers, with veteran Chris Carroll coming home second, followed by Jaob Duvall, Alexander Searle, and Tyler Lloyd. Completing the top ten were Kyle Banovit, Wayne Lee, Lenny Airtime, Todd Horton, and Tyler Swann. On Day 2, Edmonson rebounded from issues in the heat race to win an exciting 3 kart battle over Williamson and Carroll, with Jacob Duvall and Alexander Searle rounding out the top 5. Completing the race order were Tyler Lloyd and Tyler Swann.
Following a somewhat frustrating weekend at his home track in Barnesville, Georgia the previous race, Peyton Bridges rebounded nicely, sweeping the wins in the Brads Karts and Parts LO206 Cadet class over a stellar field of Cadet racers. Bridges took the Day 1 win over current points leader Owen Lloyd, with Lane Littleton, Brady Atwood, and Darryl Moglia completing the top five. The balance of the top ten were Bryce Sanders, Josey Chambers, K Mike Chidester, Mason Donahue, and Alyssa Vascocu. Feeling the bulls eye on his back didn’t prevent Bridges from roaring back for another win on Sunday, as Lloyd once again shadowed the the Georgia driver to the line. Following the duo were Maryland competitor Brady Atwood, Sanders, and Chambers, while Donahue, Adam Wein, Emma Kate Scarbrough, Chidester, and Moglia rounding out the top 10.
For yet another weekend, a strong contingent of Vintage drivers converged on the Kershaw course, with Greg Redd securing a pair of wins in the Swann Mechanical Vintage Limited Modified ranks. While Jason Shoffner has practically owned the Limited category, Redd would not be denied on Saturday, as the pair ran nose to tail the entire distance, with Cameron Plyler, Bob Barthelemy, and Ken Eversole completing the top 5. Redd returned on Sunday for the sweep, topping Eversole, Barthelemy, and Plyler.
Much like Caylyn Brown, Tim Clark is another Floridian chasing a respective title, this being in the Kart City Performance LO206 Masters class. Not to be denied, Clark topped Tim Skinner, Brad Farmer, John Seglem, and Barry Hastings on Day #1, with Skinner again chasing Clark across the stripe on Sunday. Seglem improved to third on Sunday, with Hastings and Farmer rounding out the top 5.
In the Moe Racing LO206 Kid Kart class, the competition continues to improve immensely, as defending champion Jaydyn Wilson scored the Day #1 win over Texas racer Sawyer Chambers, with Lillian Scarbrough, Sydney Miller, and Caleb Wilson making up the top 5. With Sunday being Fathers Day, and many racers having commitments, the Wilson duo were unable to compete. Chambers was able to improve on Day 2, securing the win over Scarbrough and Miller.
Much like 206, the Mikim Motorsport Pro Gas Cadet class displayed some stout competition with Owen Lloyd coming away with the first day win, topping Lane Littleton, Peyton Bridges, Brady Atwood, and Mason Donahue. Littleton, strong all weekend long, was able to finally park his Pro Gas machine in victory lane. After suffering a broken arm during the Barnesville weekend, Littleton clearly was on the mend, taking the win over Bridges, Lloyd, Donahue, and Atwood.
In the Dyno Cams Vintage Open Modified ranks, Duke Zink scored the opening day win, in a tussle over points leader Tyson Swann and Kenny Buff, while Swann rebounded for the Day 2 win.
The ARC Racing Vintage Stock class continues to boast great numbers, as a strong 14 kart field battled on Saturday with Dirt Racing legend Kenny Buff taking the hard-earned win over Greg Redd, while Tyler Swann, Todd Horton, and Steve Loftin completed the top 5. Rounding out the top ten were Eugene Neese, rebounding from a heat race flip, while newcomer Archie Kennedy, Ken Belue, Brandon Neese, and Shannon Hudson completed the top 10. While some of the Vintage drivers can only run one day, due to Sunday commitments, one of those Saturday drivers, in the form of Todd Horton, hung around, and kept his win streak alive by taking the Sunday show. Redd, coming off his best weekend yet, again was second, followed by Buff, Kennedy, and Swann.
With Race #3 at Kershaw in the books, the focus now turns to the Summer Nationals July 19-21 at Sandy Hook Speedway in Street, Maryland. The new venue for the Maxxis Series will kick off with a full day of practice on Friday, topped off by a $500 to win Money race for the LO206 Senior and CIK Senior competitors, sponsored by Barnes Paving. Second place will get $300, with $200 going to third. A full weekend of national racing will be complimented by 3 Local Option Classes, including TaG Senior and Junior, as well as Clone Modifieds, making for a 13-race program each day.
For more information on the Sandy Hook event, contact Buddy Long at buddy@goldspeedusa.com.
A special thanks to all sponsors for the Kershaw event, including Todd Miller for the purse in the Junior Money Race, not to mention the outstanding Pole Awards sponsored by Stevie and Stacy Roberts with Roberts Kart Shop.
